Body: the head is covered by thin, small scales with very strong adhesion.
The anal fin extends the caudal fin, runs along the abdomen, merges with the small caudal fin, making their appearance quite similar to a knife blade, hence the English name of some species knifefish meaning "knife fish". ". The total number of fin rays of the anal and caudal fins is over 100.

This fish has the habit of leaving eggs on rocky outcrops, and on average can produce 300 - 1000 eggs/season. After the eggs are laid, the male fish will use his tail to wave the water so that the fry will soon be born.
